The Dhaka Times Desk Due to the Ukraine-Russia war, the price of fuel oil in the world market was upward. The price of oil rose to $139 per barrel. That price has also started to decrease continuously.
U.S. local time on Thursday, oil prices were at their lowest level since the start of the war in Ukraine in February. Yesterday, Saturday (August 6), the price of oil in the international market reached less than 90 dollars.
According to a Reuters report, traders fear a global recession by the end of this year. Due to the fear that this will reduce the demand for fuel, the price of oil is falling.
Oil Price.com reported in a report that both types of crude oil are now being sold for less than $100 in the international market. At the time of writing, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading at $88.43 a barrel. On the other hand, Brent crude oil was sold at 93 dollars 95 cents.
On the other hand, last Thursday, the benchmark Brend Crude fell by 2.75 percent or 2.66 dollars to 94.12 dollars per barrel, which was the lowest price since February 18.
According to various Bloomberg reports, oil prices are falling at the fastest pace since the first week of last April. Reuters says recessions are underway across the US and Europe.
Emerging economies are struggling to repay their debts. On the other hand, economic activity has also slowed due to the zero covid policy in China. This country is the largest consumer of fuel oil in the world.
Due to all these various reasons, the price of fuel oil is falling due to the uncertainty about the demand.
However, despite the decrease in the price of fuel oil in the world market, the price of fuel oil has been increased abnormally in Bangladesh. It is really unreasonable to increase the price so much in one step. Because the price of other oil products will also increase. Already, the prices of daily necessities including soybean oil have increased. Then the situation will worsen by increasing the price of oil right now. Although this decision was taken to reduce the subsidy, there was a need to adjust these prices gradually and over time.
