The Dhaka Times Desk Today 10 Muharram is holy Ashura. Today is a tragic day in Muslim history. The tragedy that took place on 10th of Muharram in Karbala is considered as one of the saddest stories in Muslim history.

Muharram is the first month of the Arabic Hijri year. The importance of this month in the history of Islam is immense. On the 10th day of this month i.e. today this day is famous for many historical events. The day of Ashura is not only celebrated in memory of Hazrat Hussain (RA) or others who were martyred on the field of Karbala, but there are many other reasons for this, many events happened on the 10th of this month of Muharram.

Ashura is the plural form of Ashirun. It means the combination of 10th date i.e. events that took place on the 10th of Muharram. An event from the beginning of the world is related to it. The tragic event of Karbala haunts every Muslim community.

Events on the 10th day of Muharram:

1. Hazrat Adam (as) was created on this day of Ashura. Again, on this day, he again entered Paradise. It was on this date that he was sent from heaven to earth and after many years on this date, he and Bibi Hawa (a.s.) met again in Jabal Rahmat on the Maidan of Arafat and they were pardoned on this day.

2. Hazrat Idris (A.S.) was raised to the sky on this 10th of Muharram.

3. Hazrat Nuh (as) was saved from storm and flood water on the 10th of Muharram.

4. Hazrat Ayyub (as) was released from the disease after 18 years of illness on this 10th of Muharram.

5. Hazrat Ibrahim Khalilullah (AS) was rescued from the fire pit today on this 10th of Muharram.

6. Hazrat Dawud (A) was specially pardoned and Hazrat Sulaiman (A) was given back his lost kingdom on this 10th day of Muharram.

7. On this 10th day of Muharram, after 40 days in the belly of a fish, Hazrat Yunus (as) was given salvation.

8. On this day of Ashura, Hazrat Yakub (A) met his lost son Hazrat Yusuf (A).

9. On this 10th of Muharram, Hazrat Musa (as) was freed from the grip of Pharaoh.

10. On this 10th day of Ashura, Hazrat Isa (as) was lifted to the sky.

11. Our Beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) migrated from Makkah Sharif to Madinah Sharif on this 10th day of Ashura.

12. On this 10th day of Muharram, the piece of the liver of the Prophet (PBUH), the jewel of the eye of Fatima (RA), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and 77 of his relatives and close friends were brutally martyred by the soldiers of the tyrant Yazid in Karbala desert, on the banks of the river Euphrates.

So the sanctity of this month and this date and the specialness of Ashura are many. Therefore, the importance of these 10 Muharrams in Muslim history is immense. Thus, the significance of the 10th of Muharram is endless. The day is being observed today according to proper religious rituals.
