Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed grief over Sajeda Chowdhury's death.
Awami League presidium member Sajeda Chowdhury was a Member of Parliament from Faridpur-2 Constituency. He had been ill for several years. He was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital on August 28. He was 87 years old at the time of his death.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was born on May 8, 1935 in his maternal uncle's house in Magura district. His father's name is Syed Shah Hamid Ullah and mother's name is Syeda Achia Khatun. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. Her husband is politician and social activist Golam Akbar Chowdhury. Her husband died on 23 November 2015.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was awarded the UNESCO Fellowship in 1974 for her special contribution to rural development and education and at the same time she also received the Silver Elephant Medal, the highest honorary certificate as the National Commissioner of the Bangladesh Girl-Guide Association. Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was elected Woman of the Year by the American Biographical Institute in 2000. In 2010, the Bangladesh government awarded him with the Freedom Award.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was involved in Awami League politics since 1956. Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury was the general secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League during 1969-1975.
He was the founding director of Kolkata Gobra Nursing Camp during the Liberation War. In 1971, he participated in the liberation war. He served as the Director of Bangladesh Women's Rehabilitation Board during 1972-1975, National Commissioner of Bangladesh Girl Guide during 1972-1976 and Acting General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League in 1976 after the assassination of Bangabandhu.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury is the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League from 1986 to 1992, and has been serving as a presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League since 1992. He is serving as the convener of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord Implementation Committee given by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury participated in the election from Faridpur-2 (Saltha Nagarkanda). He was elected Member of Parliament several times from this seat. In February 2009, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury became the Deputy Leader of the National Parliament.
