The Dhaka Times Desk India and China have called for a negotiated settlement out of the Ukraine war.
On Saturday (September 25), the foreign ministers of the two countries made this call in a speech given to the United Nations. Both countries are known to be close to Russia. The two countries have been importing oil from Russia in defiance of Western sanctions on Russia. Russia has accused the Western world of escalating the war in Ukraine, but none of the major countries, including India and China, have supported it.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on Russia and Ukraine not to escalate the crisis, saying that it is having a serious impact on developing countries.
He also said that his country wants a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis. He thinks that both countries should press more for peace talks.
Wang Yi said we must prioritize the security concerns of all parties and find a balanced and permanent solution. He also spoke with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
This is the first time they have spoken since the start of the war in Ukraine. At the beginning of this month, a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping was also held in Uzbekistan. Then Xi expressed concern about Ukraine to Putin.
While India maintains warm relations with the US, it continues to maintain historical ties with Russia. India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said that the war in Ukraine is gradually intensifying.
He also said, we are often asked which side we are on. Our honest answer is - we are always for peace. We emphasize dialogue and diplomacy.'
