Congratulating everyone involved, Putin said, 'Agriculture is the main sector of the Russian economy. At present this sector has gained strength and reliability. As a result, it is expected that a record amount of food grains will be produced this year. Achieving this level was considered very difficult even some time ago. However, currently Russia's export potential has increased in addition to meeting the needs of its own country's daily products, so we will help especially poor countries.
Putin also said, 'Russia is always ready to contribute to the global food challenges. Under this, necessary assistance will be given to poor and developing countries'. At the time, however, Putin acknowledged that his country's agricultural sector had been hit hard by the unprecedented Western sanctions. However, all these obstacles will be resolved through government assistance, Putin said.
Putin also stressed on agricultural technology innovation in Russia and achieving self-reliance in this sector. In addition, Putin also spoke about working to improve the living standards of the country's rural residents.
Agricultural and agro-processing industry Workers' Day is considered a public holiday in Russia for those involved in this sector. It is being celebrated in the country since 1999. It is celebrated on the second Sunday of every October.
