The mosque you are looking at is the historic 'Satir Shahi Masjid' of Faridpur. This ancient mosque built in the 14th century is a unique symbol of the Islamic tradition of Faridpur area.
This mosque is located in Satair village of Satair union in Boalmari upazila of present Faridpur district. Bhushana was one of the seventeen mint cities of the Sultanate period, the ancient seaport and administrative center of the Bhushana kingdom was Satair on the banks of the Madhumati River and its surroundings. That is why Satair and the 'Satiar Shahi Masjid' located here have been geographically and historically important since that time. Moreover, the historical Grand Trunk Road or Shershah Road has gone near the mosque.
This square mosque is 17.8 meters from outside and 13.8 meters from inside. It is said that the floor of the mosque was about 0.76 meters high from the ground, today it is 0.6 meters high. There are also a total of 9 tuber shaped domes. Inside the mosque there are 4 pillars made of stone, 12 pillars on the wall and adjacent to the wall. The domes are constructed using the pendentive method. There are a total of 3 mehrabs, similar to Arab country mosques, the center of which is relatively larger. But now the mosque is no longer in its old form; Its core infrastructure has been slightly altered due to renovations and expansions.
There is some controversy about the construction of this historic mosque. La Hai- It was built contemporaneously with the sixty-domed mosque at Bagerhat. In this regard, the poet Samar Chakraborty, the author of the history book of Bhushana state, is considered to be the most reliable. Analyzing historical data, he suggested that this mosque was built during the reign of Hossain Shahi dynasty (1494 to 1538 AD) founded by Sultan Alauddin Hossain Shah. It is believed that Alauddin Hussain Shah built this mosque in honor of his pir. The construction style of the mosque's minaret and the shape of the bricks, the experts identified it as a building of that period.
