NASA's 'Artemis-1' begins its journey to the moon

The Dhaka Times Desk The US space agency NASA has successfully launched the unmanned Artemis-1 rocket as part of the much-awaited program to send humans to the moon.

তৃতীয় দফার প্রচেষ্টায় গতকাল (বুধবার) খুব ভোরে রকেটের উৎক্ষেপণ সফল হয়েছে। খবর বিবিসির। নাসার কর্মকর্তারা জানিয়েছেন, তাদের কাছে এটি মূলত একটি ঐতিহাসিক সাফল্য। ইতিপূর্বে ১৯৬৯ সালে ‘অ্যাপোলো-১১’ মিশনে প্রথম চাঁদে মানুষ পাঠানো হয়। নাসার সেই অভিযানে চাঁদে পা রেখেছিলেন নিল আর্মস্ট্রং ও এডুইন অলড্রিন। ১৯৭২ সালে নাসার মহাকাশযান ‘অ্যাপোলো-১৭’ মহাকাশচারী জেন সারনানকে নিয়ে নেমেছিলেন চাঁদে। সেই ঘটনার অর্ধশতক পূর্তিতে আবার চাঁদে মহাকাশচারী পাঠানোর লক্ষ্য নেয় নাসা।

নাসার চাঁদে মানুষ পাঠানোর এই ‘মিশন’ সম্পন্ন হবে মোট ৩টি ধাপে। প্রথম ধাপ ‘আর্টেমিস-১’। এটি একটি যাত্রীবিহীন অভিযান। যার মূল লক্ষ্যই হলো, চাঁদের মাটিতে নামার সম্ভাব্য ল্যান্ডিং সাইট গুলো চিহ্নিত করা। একই পরীক্ষা হবে মিশনের দ্বিতীয় ধাপে। সেটি সফল হলে তৃতীয় ধাপের অভিযানে চাঁদে পাড়ি দেবে মানুষ।

ইতিপূর্বে ‘আর্টেমিস-ওয়ান’-এর উৎক্ষেপণ বারবার বিলম্বিত হয়। গত ২৯ আগস্ট এই উৎক্ষেপণের দিন ধার্য করা হয়। নির্ধারিত সময় কাউন্ট ডাউন শুরুও করা হয়, তবে মাঝপথে তা থামিয়ে দিতে হয়। শেষ মুহূর্তে রকেটের তরল হাইড্রোজেনের লাইনে ছিদ্র ধরা পড়ে। বহু চেষ্টা করেও সমস্যার সমাধান করা সম্ভব হয়নি। যে কারণে প্রথম দফায় অভিযান বাতিল করতে বাধ্য হয়েছিলো নাসা।
