The Dhaka Times Desk All preparations have been completed to organize the 'Going Global Asia Pacific Conference' of the British Council. The conference is being organized to create a strategic forum for leaders in the dissemination of knowledge in international education and to create a global network to redefine the future of higher education worldwide. This regional conference of British Council's flagship event 'Going Global' is going to be organized for the first time in Singapore from November 28 to December 1.

The conference will discuss themes of international education in the UK and the Asia Pacific region. “How to achieve equality in an unequal world,” will be highlighted. The conference will focus on rethinking the future of education through exchange of ideas, strengthening it, making it inclusive and building an internationally connected education system.

Bangladesh will be represented in the conference by a 7-member delegation; Among them are: Senior Operations Officer of the World Bank. Mokhlesur Rahman, member of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Dr. Biswajit Chand, Director of UGC SPQA Dr. Durga Rani Sarkar, Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Golam Sabbir Sattar, Vice-Chancellor of Green University of Bangladesh. Golam Samdani Fakir and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Rajshahi University Professor Dr. Tanjima Yasmin. Of which Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Dr. Biswajit Chand, Dr. Golam Sabbir Sattar and Dr. Golam Samdani Fakir will participate in separate panel discussions on 'Future of Tertiary Education', 'Progressive Transnational Educational Partnerships', 'Strategies to Promote Gender Equality in STEM' and 'Regionalisation: A Key to Internationalisation'.

Speaking about the conference, British Council Bangladesh Director Tom Mischa said, “I am truly impressed with Bangladesh's enthusiastic participation in the Going Global Asia Pacific 2022 conference for leaders in international education. Delegates will participate in panel discussions on the future of tertiary education, from international partnerships to promoting gender equality in STEM education.”

The conference will feature both in-person and livestream sessions. Held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, the in-person event will bring together 200 senior tertiary education leaders from 20 countries and territories representing over 140 institutions in the Asia Pacific region and the UK. In addition, senior leaders from the global education sector can participate in keynote discussions of the conference online through registration for live stream sessions. British Council Director of Education Madeleine Ansell will open the conference; Sir Steve Smith, UK Government's International Education Champion, will be present. The conference will focus on the relevance of education in a changing world, addressing gender disparity in higher education, digital inclusion, how higher education institutions can contribute to climate change.
