Microsoft and LinkedIn's new program to train 10 million people in the digital skills they need for employment

The Dhaka Times Desk Under the Skills for Jobs program, 350 free courses can be taken along with 6 new certificates required for 6 jobs expected in the digital economy, according to Microsoft and LinkedIn.

Microsoft and LinkedIn are offering 50,000 LinkedIn Learning Scholarship opportunities to further this journey of skill acquisition. By 2025, Microsoft will also provide certificates along with support in providing training to make 1 crore people skilled for the expected jobs. This program was launched based on the success of the Global Skills Initiative. The Global Skills Initiative has already helped 80 million job seekers across the world develop their digital skills.

So far, Microsoft has worked with 1.4 million people in Asia through LinkedIn, Microsoft Learn and various non-profit initiatives related to skill development. Among them, there were more than 1 lakh 71 thousand trainees from Bangladesh. Top 6 LinkedIn Learning Pathways in Bangladesh include: Digital Marketing Specialist, Project Manager, Critical Soft Skills, Financial Analyst, Data Analyst and Graphic Designer.

Looking at data from LinkedIn and the Burning Glass Institute, Microsoft lays out 6 expected roll points. These include: Administrative Professionals, Project Managers, Business Analysts, System Administrators, Software Developers and Data Analysts.

The new courses and certificates will be offered in English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese. The program is part of Microsoft's commitment to building inclusive economic opportunities, ensuring equality among students worldwide in terms of the skills, technologies and opportunities to successfully digitize the economy.

In this regard, the country managing director of Microsoft Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal said. Yusup Farooq said, “Skilling job seekers to meet the demands of today's digital economy is crucial for Bangladesh's inclusive economy and social progress. We actually want to ensure equal participation in technology skills by pledging the necessary cooperation to empower one billion people worldwide. We want to create equal opportunities for all people to innovate and succeed in the workplace. We're excited to partner with LinkedIn and local community partners to make this work easier for us. We will work together to make everyone in Bangladesh fit for the digital ecosystem.”

The new Career Essentials Certificate is designed to provide students with basic digital literacy and advanced technical training opportunities and will play an important role in securing students' employability.

At the end of the learning pathway, students will receive a certificate with a LinkedIn badge and be able to present themselves as competent to employers.

All courses are available on LinkedIn at opportunity.linkedin.com. Additionally, Microsoft-developed courses are available in Microsoft Community Training (MCT) and in downloadable formats for non-profit partners in the Learning Management System (LMS).
