The Dhaka Times Desk Golam Moin Uddin, chairman of BAT Bangladesh, has been awarded the 'Bangladesh Lifetime Achievement Award' by the Balipara Foundation for his outstanding contribution to environmental conservation.
Golam Moin Uddin received this award at the 10th Balipara Foundation Awards 2022 held at the main auditorium of Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) in the capital recently.
The award ceremony was organized as part of the 10th Eastern Himalayan Naturonomics Forum which started in Dhaka from December 11. Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP, President of the Standing Committee on Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, attended the event as an honored guest; India's former foreign secretary and Prime Minister's Special Envoy on Nuclear and Climate Change Shyam Sharan and India Foundation Governing Council member Ram Madhav.
Gholam Moin Uddin has been serving as the Chairman of BAT Bangladesh since August 2008 with sincerity and concentration and has played an admirable and exemplary role in leadership. In continuation of his exceptional leadership, he played a leading role in the initiation of afforestation programs in 1980 aimed at increasing the number of trees on land across the country. He has been playing a significant role in the socio-economic development of the local community, including tackling the climate crisis, since the beginning of the tree planting project. Even in the 42nd year of this project, he continues to work with the same enthusiasm. Through this program initiated under his leadership, 12 crore fruit, forest and medicinal plant seedlings have been distributed free of charge to various beneficiaries in 22 districts across the country. Ghulam Moin Uddin was awarded the Bangladesh Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his visionary steps to tackle the global crisis through such a fruitful project and for his lifelong commitment to the cause.
In a statement, Moin Uddin said, “I am delighted to receive the lifetime award. When we started the plantation project, we had to face many obstacles. One of which was the lack of awareness among people about various activities and planting trees to combat climate change. We have worked through that adversity in many ways in an effort to do something meaningful to protect the environment and empower people. This award will inspire us to continue our continuous efforts to protect the environment and build a greener future.”
Bangladesh Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced by Balipara Foundation, is presented to an individual who has played a significant role in environmental conservation. So far 121 persons have been awarded by this foundation.
