The Dhaka Times Desk Recently the British Council organized a Leadership Symposium under the 'Leadership for Advancing Development in Bangladesh (LEAD Bangladesh)' project in partnership with civil society organizations.

Lead Bangladesh aims to empower the country's youth as community leaders to ensure innovation and sustainable solutions to local and international challenges. The project is being implemented in Dhaka, Chittagong, Chuadanga, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet in Bangladesh in partnership with Center for Communication and Development, Institute of Development Affairs (IDEA), Sushilan, The Hunger Project, Wave Foundation and Young Power in Social Action. The project also has Common Purpose as a UK-based partner to develop leadership elements among migrants.

The LEAD Bangladesh project aims to increase representation and participation of youth in Bangladesh's policy making and prepare future leaders in the global context. Lead Bangladesh has combined direct training for 3,000 youth who can bring change in the community and skill development training for 1,400 like-minded candidates. The development of youth through 240 Social Action Projects (SAP) on 3 critical sectors of Bangladesh's development related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – industrialization, citizen participation in climate change and democratic inclusion.
40 experienced professionals and leaders from the Bangladeshi migrant community in the UK participated in the program and played a role in developing young leadership. Azharul Islam Khan, Director General (Grade-1) of the Directorate of Youth Development was present as the chief guest at the inauguration of the symposium. British Council Director Programs Bangladesh David Knox was present in it.

Two panel discussions were held in this symposium. The first panel discussion focused on 'The Role of Youth in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals' and the second panel discussion on 'How Migrant Leaders Can Contribute to Capacity Building of Bangladesh's Youth'. The first panel discussion was moderated by Minhaj Anwar, Chief Storyteller, BetterStories Limited and the second panel discussion was moderated by Reem Asil, Development Director, Common Purpose.
