Sweden did not allow the assembly

The Dhaka Times Desk Sweden did not allow the anti-NATO and Koran-burning rally in Stockholm. This is a rare decision in Sweden. The reason is that no assembly is banned in the country in accordance with democratic rights.

A few days ago, the Koran was burnt in such a gathering. Turkey then stated that it would not support Sweden in any way to become a member of NATO. NATO's rules are that no new country can become a member without the consent of all member countries.

Sweden's security force, Sapo, said the possibility of further attacks in Sweden after the January rally would increase. So they did not allow any such protest.

Police said the burning of a Koran in front of the Turkish embassy in January further threatened Sweden's security. Moreover, the interests of Sweden and Swedes abroad may be undermined. Attacks against Sweden may also increase.

After the incident in January, Turkey made it clear that it would not negotiate with Sweden to become a member of NATO. They canceled the talks between the defense ministers of the two countries.

Turkish President Erdoğan announced that there was no longer any question of supporting Sweden. There is no question of supporting Sweden unless the Koran burning is banned.

Police said the February 9 rally was organized by the far-right. AFP reports that the rally was originally called to protest Sweden's decision to join NATO.
