Fatal fire at fuel depot in Jakarta: 17 killed

The Dhaka Times Desk 17 people were killed and more than 100 people were injured in a terrible fire at a fuel depot in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

According to a report, the fire incident occurred at a fuel oil depot in Tanah Merah, Zarqat at around 8 pm local time on Friday (March 3). Later it quickly spread to the surrounding populated areas. It is known that the damaged oil depot belongs to Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina.

In this regard, the company's area manager, Eko Kristiawan, reported in local media that the cause of the fire is yet to be known. An investigation is underway to find out the cause. However, due to this fire, there will be no impact on the supply of fuel oil in the country.

Satriadi Gunawan, head of the Jakarta branch of Indonesia's central fire service office, told the media that fire service personnel were able to bring the fire under control at 10:30 p.m. local time after about two and a half hours of efforts. Fifty people injured in the accident were admitted to local hospitals, some of them in critical condition.
