On the other hand, NLD said that they will not contest this illegal election.

The NLD won the November 2020 parliamentary elections. Later, in February 2021, a military coup seized power in Myanmar and jailed party leader Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi, 77, is serving a total of 33 years in prison after being found guilty in a case by the military. His supporters say the charges against him are meant to prevent him from actively participating in politics.
