The man wants to break misconceptions about European Muslims. So he published a collection of photos of mosques and Islamic architecture in Europe.

Whether it's the oriental ornamentation, calligraphy and ornate chandeliers, or the architecture and aesthetics of Copenhagen's main mosque, German-Danish photographer Eckhard Ahmed Kraussen has been fascinated by such installations. Not only that, the mosque as a whole has special importance to him.

Eckhardt said, 'The peaceful atmosphere in the mosque really fascinates me. People can read calligraphy there in a peaceful environment and discuss with other Muslims. Of course, prayers can also be read. The environment can also be enjoyed in peace.'

As a photographer he has been documenting mosques and Islamic architecture in Europe for many years. He has photographed more than 70 mosques in 15 European countries such as Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain. An anthology of that film has been published.

He also noted a difference with the Islamic world. According to Eckhardt, mosques in Europe are smaller in size and glitz than in Muslim countries. Mosques in Europe generally do not even allow the call to prayer through loudspeakers.

For a long time, the construction of the Azan minar was not allowed. However, as the number of Muslims in Europe is increasing, many mosques are easily recognizable from the outside. Eckhard Ahmed Kraussen said, 'In Denmark new and modern mosques are allowed to build minarets. It was not possible before. It was expressly forbidden when the first mosque was built outside Copenhagen in 1964. Fortunately the situation has improved today.'

Eckhard Ahmed Krausen grew up in a conservative Christian family in the western German city of Aachen. At the end of the seventies of the last century, he left Germany and traveled to Asia and Africa. He went to Egypt and converted to Islam. He converted in 1992.

He was in his late thirties. In search of his identity as a European Muslim, he chose photography as a tool. 'I realized I was really looking for European Islamic architecture,' says Eckhardt. I liked it so much that I immediately fell in love with these mosques. These are my mosques - my great love.'

The mosques that Eckhardt has been photographing for two decades have been featured in several exhibitions. His book features photographs of his favorite mosques on a personal level. Eckhard Ahmed Kraussen also said, 'The mosque in Belarus is my favorite. As yellow is my favorite color, I remember this yellow mosque. A book in Danish is also my other project. There will be more expression in that than in this book.'

Eckhard Ahmed Krausen settled in Denmark. He also reflected his life story in the pictures taken by himself. Eckhard Ahmed Kraussen also wants to work to eliminate misconceptions about Muslims in Europe.
