Syria: The possibility of suspension of military operations

The Dhaka Times Desk There is a possibility that the military operation in Syria will be suspended. The BBC reported that the decision could be taken after consideration of the offer of international control of chemical weapons in Syria made by Russia.

According to media reports, US President Barack Obama commented that Russia's proposal could be a strategy to prevent a possible US military attack on Syria.

The U.S. believes that Russia has made such a proposal because it has threatened to use force.

Meanwhile, Russia's proposal to keep Syria's chemical weapons under control has come as a surprise to many countries.

In that proposal, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says, 'We don't know if Syria will agree to it, but if they can avoid Western operations due to the establishment of international control over the country's chemical weapons, then we can immediately start talking with Damascus about this proposal and appeal to the Syrian government. May they hand over control of their stockpiles of chemical weapons to the international community and gradually destroy them'?
