The Dhaka Times Desk A supermassive black hole gave birth to a string of stars twice as long as the Milky Way during its journey through space, NASA researchers said. This has never been seen before.
With the help of the Hubble Space Telescope, researchers suddenly saw it. The details of which have also been published in a research paper in the Astrophysical Journal Letters on April 6. The news is from CTV News.
Researchers say the length of the newly born star array is 200,000 light-years. When the black hole was traveling it weighed as much as 20 million suns. It traveled so fast that it took only 14 minutes to travel from Earth to the Moon.
"What we see is a stream of gas behind the black hole that cooled and gave birth to stars," said Ter van Bokkum of Yale University. What we see is the result. Just like a water current is created behind a boat, similarly a gas current is created behind a black hole.
Van Bokkum also said that this black hole was discovered purely by accident. I was just looking at the Hubble image, and this suddenly caught my eye. This has never been seen before.
Note that this is the first time such a black hole has been known. NASA said there may be more.
