According to media reports, when this service starts commercially, it will take only 45 seconds for the metro to cross the 520-meter tunnel under the Hooghly river. The train will cross the river and reach Howrah Maidan station. The deepest metro station in India is located at about 33 meters below the ground. On the other hand, the distance of the tunnel from the water level is only 32 meters.
Note that in 1984, the first metro rail service in India started in the city of Kolkata. This time, the first metro in the country is going to run under water in Kolkata.
