According to the concerned authorities, a shipment of about 2 tonnes of cocaine was found floating. This information was reported by the American media CNN.

According to the report, Italy's financial police Guardia di Finanza gave this information in a statement on Monday (April 17). Authorities recovered about 2 tons of cocaine floating in the Mediterranean during routine surveillance on Sunday, they said.

The police said that such a large quantity of drug consignment is rarely found before. The drugs were carefully wrapped in 70 floating packets. Signaling light devices were also attached to the packets. The market value of recovered cocaine is about 440 million dollars (about 4500 crores in Bangladeshi currency).

Italy's financial police, the Guardia di Finanza, said they were continuing to investigate whether more floating packets were found. However, they think that the floating drug packets may have been dropped by a cargo ship. They are brought very close to the shore by smugglers.
