Md. Sahabuddin was born on 10 December 1949 in Jubilee Tank neighborhood of Shivrampur in Pabna city. His nickname is Chuppu. His father's name is Sharfuddin Ansari and mother's name is Khairunnessa. He obtained MSc degree from Rajshahi University in 1974 and then passed LLB and BCS (Judge) examinations. He was the General Secretary of Pabna Edward College Branch Chhatra League, President of Pabna District Chhatra League and Jubo League. He also served as the joint editor of the district Bakshal and the publicity secretary of the district Awami League.

Md. Sahabuddin actively participated in 6-point movement of 66, mass uprising of 79, election of 70 and liberation war of 71. He also led from the front in the movement and struggle of Pabna district. He protested immediately after August 15, 1975. At that time, under the wrath of the military dictators, he was imprisoned for three years and subjected to inhuman torture.

Md. Sahabuddin has done journalism in Dainik Banglar Bani. Many of his columns have also been published in various national dailies. During his career he served as District and Sessions Judge and ACC Commissioner. He also served as the Director of the Prime Minister's Office and the coordinator assigned to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in the Bangabandhu assassination case. Sahabuddin was elected Secretary General of BCS (Judiciary) Association for two consecutive terms. After retirement from service, he joined the legal profession in the High Court.

He served as the Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the 2001 post-election violence. As the ACC Commissioner, Sahabuddin showed determination to counter the so-called corruption conspiracy against the Padma Bridge project. This former student leader has served as a member of Bangladesh Awami League's advisory board and chairman of the central publicity and publication sub-committee.
