The Dhaka Times Desk Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted bail in a case of inciting violence against the army.
After the arrest of Imran from Islamabad High Court premises by Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau-NAB on May 9, supporters of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) started violent protests across the country.
During the two-day protest, several cantonments and army installations of Pakistan were vandalized and set on fire. Imran, a 70-year-old politician and one-time sensational cricketer, was later released on the orders of the Supreme Court. In this regard yesterday (Tuesday), Imran Khan's lawyer Intezar Hussain said that the anti-corruption court granted his bail in the new case if the former prime minister appeared in court and submitted a bail bond.
Imran Khan has denied the allegations against him saying that he was in custody when the incident of violence took place.
Imran was granted bail till June 2. That is, he cannot be arrested in this case at this time.
Imran Khan took over as the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018. In 2022, he was forced to resign after losing a no-confidence vote in Parliament. Since then, Imran Khan and his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been agitating for the election.
After Imran's resignation, the tension in Pakistani politics started. It remains to be seen where the star of various dramas will take the political career of this cricketer.
Recently, after the arrest of Imran, dramatic events happened one after another in the politics of Pakistan. He also offered talks to the country's ruling coalition government to resolve the crisis. However, the current government of Shahbaz Sharif rejected that proposal.
