Mehmet Simsek, the former chief economic officer in Erdogan's cabinet, has been given the job of finance minister.
Also, almost all members of Erdogan's cabinet have been replaced, except for the health and culture ministers, according to an Al Jazeera report. Sevdet Yilmaz is the Vice President of Turkey in the 18-member cabinet. On the other hand, Hakan Fidan, the head of the National Intelligence Agency, has been given the responsibility of Foreign Minister. Ali Yarlikaya has received the responsibility of the country's interior minister. Mehmet Simsek became the finance minister. And Yasser Guler, who is Turkey's Chief of General Staff, has been given the responsibility of Defense Minister.
Analysts warn that, if current policies continue, Turkey's economy could become more volatile due to dwindling foreign reserves and stagnant inflation. The Turkish currency, the lira, has gradually lost its value in recent years. Erdoğan has given the most importance to reforming these issues.
It should be noted that in the first round of voting held on May 14, the current president of Turkey, Erdogan, was ahead but failed to be elected. According to the country's electoral rules, the president needs to get 50 percent support to be elected. Erdogan received 49.52 percent of the votes in the first round of the election. On the other hand, his nearest rival Kemal got 44.88 percent. That is why the voting of the presidential election was held in the second phase according to the local rules. And on May 28, Erdogan won the second phase of the election by getting 52.12 percent of the votes. On the other hand, Pradhan Kemal got 47.88 percent votes.
