Due to the financial crisis, new educational institutions cannot be included in the MPO!

Dhaka Times Report. Government has always given priority to education. A special allocation is also kept in the budget for the education sector. But we have to read the news that educational institutions are not eligible to be included in MPO only because of financial crisis!

A source in the ministry said that there is no possibility of any new educational institution being included in the MPO in the current financial year. This apprehension has arisen due to low allocation to the respective sectors and lack of funds for joining new MPOs. 15 crores have been allocated so far in the current financial year for the new MPO sector. Last year's budget was 306 crores in this sector. But due to non-spending of the money, in the new budget, 100 crores were first proposed, but in the final proposal, 15 crores were allocated. It is known that the initiative to provide MPO was taken in this sense in July. But due to overwhelming demand, the ministry later adopted a slow-walk policy.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid recently said that he is personally interested in providing financial benefits to teachers. That is why the officials in the ministry were instructed to work with the applications received in addition to asking the MPs in the parliament. But due to financial problems could not go far. Education Secretary Dr. Kamal Abdul Nasser Chowdhury said that there is 15 crores in the new MPO sector. In this sense, MPO may be provided for two to three months. But once MPO is given to someone it has to be carried for life. For that, money has been requested in this sector in the budget of the next financial year. No response received so far. MPO will be provided if funds are available.

How many institutions without MPO?

Applications were sought from organizations across the country for the latest MPO awards. From February 4, 2010 to February 25, 7 thousand 533 applications were submitted. About 4000 were selected from those institutes. Of these, 1,612 received MPOs. Again, there are 4,693 non-MPO institutions across the country that are not affiliated to MPO at any level. According to the government policy, educational institutions are supposed to be established on the basis of school mapping, distance or student-teacher ratio etc. Most of the mentioned institutions are not established according to government regulations. Apart from this, there are 4 thousand 438 institutions which are recognized but under MPO. Currently, there are 27 thousand 307 MPO-affiliated educational institutions across the country.

Mismanagement in educational institutions

Talking to the headmaster of an educational institution in this regard, he said on condition of anonymity, "We have many problems which are not done even if we report them to the Ministry of Education." Educational institutions which are not affiliated to MPO, those educational institutions have to face many problems. There are high schools which are not affiliated to MP, they have to face a lot of trouble in registration in class 9. There are rules for registration in MPO-affiliated institutions, the Ministry of Education has instructed that one hundred rupees can be charged from each student. But in reality, 500 rupees are demanded for registration. If you object to it, you will have to face a lot of trouble in registration. The teacher also said that we informed the Ministry of Education about this and they did not take any action. Moreover, if we inform in writing, it will be seen that we are not able to do the registration. The teacher also commented that the ministry needs to be stricter to include MPO.
