Female crocodile gave birth without male crocodile!

The Dhaka Times Desk Have you ever heard of a crocodile getting pregnant without being in contact with a male crocodile? For the first time, a virgin crocodile gave birth to a child by surprising scientists!

This amazing incident happened in a zoo in Costa Rica. This information is known in a report of the New York Times published on June 8.

Scientists have claimed that the mother crocodile has not come close to any male crocodile for about 16 years. For the first time, the crocodile in the zoo gave birth without any kind of reproductive process.

In a journal, those concerned claimed that the female crocodile gave birth to 99.99 percent of the mother's DNA. That is, the crocodile is able to create a complete embryo from its own DNA without any contact with a male crocodile.

This process of making embryos without reproductive process is called facultative parthenogenesis. This type of process has been seen in birds, fish and other reptiles before, but this is the first time it has been seen in crocodiles. The information was published in Biology Letters, citing the Royal Society journal.

In 2018, the crocodile was able to produce 14 eggs through this process. Researchers hypothesize that they inherited this trait from their extinct ancestors. It is also hypothesized that dinosaurs were also capable of self-breeding.
