The Dhaka Times Desk Scientists have found a possible antidote to the deadly death cap mushroom (Amanita phalloides). Every year, hundreds of people around the world die from eating poisonous mushrooms. The death cap mushroom is responsible for 90 percent of these deaths.
The top of the mushroom, which is only 6 inches tall, is yellowish-green. Although it is quite delicious to eat. This is reported by survivors who inadvertently ate parts of the poisonous death cap mushroom. Ingestion can cause vomiting, convulsions, severe liver damage and even death. Roman Emperor Claudius is also believed to have died from eating this mushroom in 54 AD. In 1740, the Roman Emperor Charles VI also died after eating this mushroom. It is said that this poisonous mushroom has been known for centuries as the 'killer of kings'. Now it is about to lose that title.
Chinese researchers recently discovered a potential antidote. The scientific name of this chemical as an antidote is indocyanine green. And the name of the death cap poison is alpha-amanitin. Within a few days of eating the mushroom, alpha-amanitin enters the cells of the human body. However, if the antidote is taken in time, it will prevent penetration into the cells and people will be saved from the final poisoning. The research team presented the findings May 16 in the Nature and Health journal Nature Communications.
In this regard, Helz Bode, a natural materials chemist at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany, said the antidote is actually great. Alpha-Amanitin is truly one of the most dangerous compounds in our nature. Although there is a long history of human poisoning, finding people poisoned by the death cap and applying the discovered chemical to them in a timely manner is also very difficult. Qiaoping Wang and Guohui Wan, drug development researchers at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, came to this conclusion after researching the subject.
The scientists also used the method Wang and Wan developed several years ago to find an antidote to jellyfish venom. First they made a portion of human cells. Later, after bringing their cellular changes through mutation, check which cells are able to resist the toxic alpha-amanitin.
It was reported that only 50 percent of rats treated with indocyanine green died of alpha-amanitin toxicity. 90 percent of the mice that were not treated died. Jiri Patoka, a toxicologist at the University of Southern Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic, said researchers are very optimistic and excited about this approach to finding a cure, which is essentially a very modern approach.
The US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency have also approved the use of this antidote, indocyanine green, which had already been discovered. They said that certain doses of the chemical are safe for the human body as well. Félix Carvalho, a toxicologist at the University of Porto in Portugal, said the timing of exposure will be crucial in this study. The researchers also treated some mice with indocyanine green 4 hours after the animals were exposed to alpha-amanitin.
However, it appears that most people who have ingested a death cap do not go to hospital within 24 to 48 hours. Then when they are seriously affected, they rush to get treatment. Due to this, the affected people cannot be brought under research at the right time.
Things to do to prevent Corona virus
# try to stay at home all the time.
# Follow the rules and use mask when going out for emergency.
# three-layer cloth mask can be washed if desired.
# wash clothes after coming home from outside. Or hang it without shaking for at least four hours.
# Wash hands thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds) with soap or liquid before coming outside.
# plastic PPE or eyes, face, head must be washed thoroughly with detergent and dried after one use.
# Wear PPE made of cloth or clean as described.
# Use a head cap that completely covers the hair.
# Those who have sneeze cough should follow all the rules promulgated by the government. Also, wash hands as directed before and after handling food items, keys, switches, mice, remote controls, mobiles, watches, computer desks, TVs, etc. and after using the bathroom. Those who have dry hands use Moisture after washing their hands. Soap or hand liquid can be used. Why can this virus remain in the crackle (cracked part) of dry hands? Avoid using highly alkaline soaps or detergents.
