The Dhaka Times Desk A recent study found that modern dogs' brains are growing more slowly than those of ancient breeds. It is also believed to be due to the animal's interaction with humans.
The study, published in the journal Evolution, examined the brain size of both modern and ancient dogs. It shows that the dog's brain is gradually getting bigger. Dogs are also thought to have evolved from wolves or similar animals. So the researchers compared the wolf brain with the dog brain.
Enico Kubini, a senior research fellow in the Department of Ethology at the ELTE Institute of Biology, said in a press release that the animal's brain gradually grew larger during the breeding process from ancient dog breeds to modern dogs.
"We cannot explain this based on the dog's breed type or breeding history," the researcher added. We can only speculate about the reasons. That is, researchers still do not have a scientific explanation for brain enlargement. They explained this change based on hypothesis only.
In the study, a team of scientists from Hungary and Sweden took CT scans of 850 dogs of 159 breeds and examined their size. Then they compared them with data from the brains of 48 species of wolves. Researchers found that a dog's brain of the same weight as a wolf's is three-quarters that of a wolf's. This also corroborates data from a past study so far.
According to that study, the brain size of animals decreases by 20 percent when domesticated. Because animals do not need to hunt for their food or protect themselves from predators. They do not have to face as many dangers as wild animals. But in the case of dogs, the opposite is happening. It turns out that dogs' brains have gotten bigger as time has passed since they evolved from wolves, even though they are domesticated.
According to Enico Kubini, a researcher on this subject, forced to adapt to a complex or social environment, urbanization and more rules may also be the reason for this change. He also commented that the issues are affecting all modern races.
The study also found that relative brain size had no correlation with skull shape, longevity, or pup size. The researchers believe their findings reinforce the evidence that ancient dogs were independent.
"Different dogs live in different social environments and perform complex tasks, which probably requires a larger brain capacity," says Niklas Kolm of Stockholm University. And so we think that stress on the brain may vary between dog breeds. Differences in brain size are also thought to be due to the time of their evolution from wolves or differences in task performance.
Things to do to prevent Corona virus
# try to stay at home all the time.
# Follow the rules and use mask when going out for emergency.
# three-layer cloth mask can be washed if desired.
# wash clothes after coming home from outside. Or hang it without shaking for at least four hours.
# Wash hands thoroughly (for at least 20 seconds) with soap or liquid before coming outside.
# plastic PPE or eyes, face, head must be washed thoroughly with detergent and dried after one use.
# Wear PPE made of cloth or clean as described.
# Use a head cap that completely covers the hair.
# Those who have sneeze cough should follow all the rules promulgated by the government. Also, wash hands as directed before and after handling food items, keys, switches, mice, remote controls, mobiles, watches, computer desks, TVs, etc. and after using the bathroom. Those who have dry hands use Moisture after washing their hands. Soap or hand liquid can be used. Why can this virus remain in the crackle (cracked part) of dry hands? Avoid using highly alkaline soaps or detergents.
