The spacecraft sent by the American space agency (NASA) to observe this planet is called Juno. Juno's camera captured a novel scene of lightning on Jupiter.
NASA recently released an image from Juno's camera. The image shows a small green dot of light at the top of the spherical planet. Scientists are claiming that this is the scene of Jupiter's lightning.
This photo was taken on December 20, 2020. NASA scientist Kevin M. Gill discovered this image while digging through old data from 2022. When the image shared by NASA was taken, Juno was 19,900 miles above Jupiter's cloud layer. Scientists claim that this picture taken by him has shed new light on Jupiter's weather and nature.
Scientists have reported that the pattern of lightning on Earth is slightly different on Jupiter. Clouds are formed by the accumulation of water particles on the earth. And there is lightning in that cloud. In general, lightning is more frequent in the equatorial regions of the earth. But in the case of Jupiter, lightning occurs at the polar ends. These thunderbolts are born in clouds made up of ammonia and water. So Jupiter's lightning is different from Earth's.
Jupiter is composed mostly of hydrogen and helium gases. The distance of this planet from the sun is 88 thousand 850 miles. NASA's Juno spacecraft has been orbiting this planet since 2016.
