The Dhaka Times Desk The Election Commission (EC) canceled the nomination papers of Ashraful Hossain Alam (Hero Alam) in the by-election of Dhaka-17 seat as he could not get one percent votes and their signatures. Popular YouTuber Hero Alam said that he will appeal to EC against this.
Hero Alam also said that if the EC appeal fails, he will file a writ in the High Court. Hero Alam said these things on Monday in the chambers of Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yarul Islam.
Hero Alam said on Monday that the returning officer canceled the nomination papers. I am preparing to appeal against that decision to the Election Commission (EC). I will appeal to the EC on Tuesday. If I do not get the nomination papers back in the appeal, then I will file a writ in the High Court. In general, I will continue the legal fight until the moment before the election.
Hero Alam's nomination paper was canceled by the returning officer and senior election officer of Dhaka district, Munir Hossain Khan.
After sorting the nomination papers at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) of Agargaon, he said that the name and signature of one percent of the voters are required to be elected in any parliamentary seat. However, Hero Alam could not get the signature of this one percent voter. The returning officer's delegation visited the ground and could not find the whereabouts of the one percent voter given by Hero Alam. That is why his nomination was cancelled.
