Historical 'Satyr Shahi Mosque' of Faridpur

The mosque you see is the historical 'Satir Shahi Masjid' of Faridpur. This ancient mosque built in the 14th century is a unique symbol of the Islamic tradition of Faridpur area.

This mosque is located in Satair village of Satair union of Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district. Bhushana was one of the 17 mint cities of the Sultanate period, the ancient seaport and administrative center of the Bhushana kingdom was Satair and its surrounding areas on the banks of the Madhumati River. That's why Satair and the 'Satiar Shahi Masjid' located here are geographically and historically important since that time. Also, the historic Grand Trunk Road or Shershah Road passes by the mosque.

This square mosque is 17.8 meters from outside and 13.8 meters from inside. It is said that the floor of the mosque was about 0.76 meters high from the ground, even today it is 0.6 meters high. There are also a total of 9 tuber shaped domes. Inside the mosque there are 4 pillars made of stone, 12 pillars on the wall and adjacent to the wall. The domes are constructed using the pendentive method. There are a total of 3 mehrabs like the Arab country mosques, the center of which is relatively large. But now the mosque is not in that old form; Some of its original infrastructure has been obscured by renovations and extensions.

There is also controversy over the construction of this historic mosque; Some consider it a unique achievement of the Mughal period. Others say that it was built at the same time as the sixty-domed mosque of Bagerhat. The most reliable in this regard is the poet Samar Chakraborty, the author of the Bhushana kingdom history book. Analyzing historical data, he suggested that this mosque was built during the reign of Hossain Shahi dynasty (1494 to 1538 AD) founded by Sultan Alauddin Hossain Shah. It is believed that Alauddin Hussain Shah built this mosque in honor of his pir. The construction style of the mosque's minaret and the size of the bricks have identified it as a building of that period.

It is known that at one time many ali-Allahs and dervishes lived in Satair, an important seaport of Bhushana state. They came here from Arab region to spread Islam. At least 12 graves of Oli are still standing in the present mosque premises and its surrounding area. The reason for the naming of 'Satire' is also said to be; The area was named 'Shahe Tur' for the residence of the Auli-Auliyas, a Persian word meaning hill of Auli. This 'Shah Tur' eventually became Satire.

One of the elders who came to Satair was Hazrat Shaikh Shah Ali Chaturi (RA). Shaykh Chaturi (RA) is believed to have arrived in this country in the 14th century to spread Islam. He was given special patronage by Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah for the propagation of Islam and many historical documents have also presented that the Sultan became a murid to him after being attracted by his perfections and sacrificial lifestyle.

How to prevent dengue

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral fever. This fever is different from other viral or bacterial fevers. However, this fever is not contagious in any way. 1. Bleeding from nose, mouth or vomiting with high fever within 2 to 48 hours.

2. Fluid accumulation in chest or abdomen along with fever.

If any of these symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.

Wait at home for the first 3 days of fever. On the other hand, sponge the whole body with water every now and then. This will reduce the level of fever. Drink enough water and rest. After that, if the fever does not decrease or if it continues to increase after some time, consult a doctor immediately.

Things to do to prevent Dengue:

1. Try to keep the surroundings of the house as clean as possible.

2. If there are flower tubs or broken plastic bottles, can shells, tires or polythene inside the house, clean them quickly and drain the accumulated water from the flower tubs.

3. Spray or fog at least 3 times a week to kill mosquitoes.

4. You can keep mosquito repellent cream with you while going out.

5. After evening, younger and older members of the household should use mosquito nets.

6. Clean up any accumulated rain water, as this is the time when Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs.

7. On the other hand, you can use mats along with mosquito nets to avoid mosquito infestation.
