NASA will grow vegetables in space

Humans have been cultivating various plants in the world since the beginning of time. After farming in fertile land and favorable environment, humans have developed techniques to cultivate in barren land and unfavorable environment using scientific techniques. Earth's climate is suitable for growing plants. Different types of flora are grown here based on the characteristics of sunlight and atmosphere. By creating an artificial environment, it has become possible to grow plants indoors. To top it all off, NASA has announced that it will grow plants in space. The research will begin aboard the International Space Station (ISS), 230 miles above Earth's surface. The study will be conducted in zero gravity and artificial light environment.

In view of this, NASA decided to develop their vegetable production system VEGGIE will be sent to the International Space Station. Initially 6 lettuce seedlings will be grown. After 28 days of growing in pink light, the seedlings will be mature. However, astronauts cannot eat them. These will be sent to Earth. The vegetables will be tested for bacteria and cleanliness.

It is believed that NASA is doing this research to reduce the cost of sending food to the International Space Station. Note that it costs 10,000 dollars to send 1 pound of food from Earth to the space station. NASA thinks growing vegetables on the space station could provide a form of therapy for astronauts. It will reduce the feeling of isolation from the world, bringing tranquility to the memory by keeping the green of the world close by. Later, NASA will take the cultivation plan further in space and scientists will continue to experiment on how to grow and maintain different types of vegetables.
