The Dhaka Times Desk Police surrounded the Naval Office Building in Washington early Monday morning in search of a gunman who had already shot one person and threatened others. The Naval Office Building is not far from the Washington House and Capitol Hill. There were several casualties including police officers.
More than a hundred police officers and naval officers surrounded the headquarters building, which employed more than 3,000 civilians. The operation featured heightened U.S. security measures, and nearby schools were temporarily placed on lockdown. It should be noted that at 8:20 a.m. US time, a gunshot was heard from the south end of the Navy Yard, and the Navy said on Twitter that action was taken immediately.
Navy officials then blocked the nearby roads to prevent the gunman from escaping. An officer said the gunman fired in self-defense. The officer who was shot is currently in surgery, while the gunman is presumed dead by officers. However, Chief Police Officer Lenier believes that there are still two more armed men. Police are looking for them.
"There are possibly two other gunmen, whose location we have not yet ascertained, but expect to know very soon," said the chief. However, the police said that 10 people were injured, including two police officers.
Meanwhile, Obama has given strict orders to catch the criminals. "We still don't know who did it but it's important at this point to evacuate everyone to safety and provide medical treatment to those who have been shot," he said in a message.
