The Dhaka Times Desk Today Saturday is an unforgettable day of the Bengali nation, December 16 is the Great Victory Day. The nation is celebrating this great day with due dignity.

১৬ ডিসেম্বর: আজ মহান বিজয় দিবস 1

On this day in 1971, the Pakistani invasion forces were defeated. The victory of the country was achieved.

Through the sacrifice of millions of people of this country, we have got an independent and sovereign state of Bangladesh. After the bloody war that started with the declaration of independence on March 26, 1971, exactly 9 months after that, i.e. on December 16, we achieved victory through the defeat of the invading forces. Since then we are an independent state, we have got our own flag.

Thousands of Bengali years were spent waiting for such a day. The much-desired day was seen on the pages of history as if written in red ink at the end of a bloody struggle on December 16, 1971.

On this day today at Dhaka's historic Race Course Ground (now Suhrawardy Udyan), the barbaric Pakistani forces laid down their arms and bowed before the victorious Bengalis. Signed the defeat certificate. An independent nation called Bangladesh emerged on the world map.

On the day of this victory achieved in return for the sacrifice of 3 million martyrs and the honor of 2 lakh mothers and sisters in the 9 months long bloody war, not only joy but also pain will ring in the hearts of many Bengalis. With humble respect and deep gratitude, the nation remembers the known and unknown brave martyrs. Years pass by, enjoying the benefits of freedom earned in return for their sacrifices. But those who betrayed the nation and joined hands with the murderous Pakistani soldiers during the turbulent days of that struggle. The stigma of not judging those Razakars-Albadars has dimmed this great achievement of the nation. However, the present government came to power and tried those Al Badr Al Shams one after another and cleared the nation.

Since morning, festive people have come down the road all over the country. All the memorials of the country will be filled with flowers in humble respect remembering the martyrs. In the capital, countless people of all ages gather at Savare National Memorial Ground. The sacred altar of the memorial is being covered with flowers of respect.

Flags will be decorated on the main roads and highways of all the major cities of the country including the capital. Today is a public holiday. Important buildings will be illuminated at night. Special meals will be served in hospitals, orphanages and prisons. Special prayers will also be offered in all places of worship including mosques and churches. And this is how this great day is being observed today. The nation is taking a new oath today to build a new Bangladesh.

How to prevent dengue

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral fever. This fever is different from other viral or bacterial fevers. However, this fever is not contagious in any way. This viral fever can occur alone or in combination with other viruses (chikungunya, yellow fever, Burma forest, flu, respiratory syncytial) and bacteria (pneumococcus).

Dengue fever is divided into two categories depending on the severity of symptoms and fever.

1. Common dengue fever

2. Dengue fever with bleeding.

In the case of common dengue fever, the following symptoms are mainly seen-

1. Sudden high fever lasting 2 to 7 days.

2. Severe headache.

3. Pain behind the eyes.

4. Along with the fever, red rash appears all over the body.

5. Severe pain in whole body as well as back pain.

6. Nausea or vomiting.

7. A rash or red bumps on the skin.

In case of dengue fever with bleeding:

1. Bleeding from nose, mouth or vomiting with high fever within 2 to 48 hours.

2. Fluid accumulation in chest or abdomen along with fever.

If any of these symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.

On the other hand

Wait at home for the first 3 days of fever. On the other hand, sponge the whole body with water every now and then. This will reduce the level of fever. Drink enough water and rest. After that, if the fever does not decrease or if it continues to increase after some time, consult a doctor immediately.

Things to do to prevent Dengue:

1. Try to keep the surroundings of the house as clean as possible.

2. If there are flower tubs or broken plastic bottles, can shells, tires or polythene inside the house, clean them quickly and drain the accumulated water from the flower tubs.

3. Spray or fog at least 3 times a week to kill mosquitoes.

4. You can keep mosquito repellent cream with you while going out.

5. After evening, younger and older members of the household should use mosquito nets.

6. Clean up any accumulated rain water, as this is the time when Aedes mosquitoes lay their eggs.

7. On the other hand, you can use mats along with mosquito nets to avoid mosquito infestation.

8. Since Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day, it is important to avoid sleeping with mosquito nets while sleeping during the day. Source: https://dmpnews.org
