The Dhaka Times Desk Sheikh Hasina, the eldest child of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, was born on this day in 1947 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. He is currently the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the party chief of the political party Awami League. His 67th birthday is being celebrated on Saturday.
Although he celebrates his birthday every year in the country, this time he will celebrate his birthday in New York on the occasion of attending the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly. But this time he is getting it from family members on his birthday. Also, various socio-cultural organizations including Awami League have undertaken various activities on the occasion of the party chief's birthday in the country.
This includes milad mahfil and special prayers in different mosques of the country including Baitul Mokaram National Mosque on Saturday, special prayers in pagodas and churches including Dhakeshwari National Temple in the afternoon and milad, doa mahfil, cloth distribution and discussion meeting will be held at Awami League Central Office Bangabandhu Avenue in the afternoon.
The party also said that food will be distributed to various orphanages on behalf of Awami League in their respective areas across the country. In addition, the Sheikh Russell National Shishu Kishore Parishad has organized distribution of various sports materials and discussion meetings at the Tower Bhawan Auditorium of the National Sports Council for the children.
On the other hand, Chhatra League, Jubo League and other allied organizations will hold various programs throughout the day.
When Bangabandhu died brutally in his family in 1975, Sheikh Hasina survived because she was out of the country with her husband. Younger sister Sheikh Rehana was also with him. After five years and nine months, he returned home from India on May 17, 1981. Returning to the country, he led the Awami League with a firm hand and came to power twice through democratic elections.
