The Dhaka Times Desk Chittagong Metropolitan BNP has called a full-day hartal in Chittagong today to protest against the announcement of death sentence against BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury accused of crimes against humanity in 1971. BNP will give an official response to the verdict today.

Meanwhile, miscreants set fire to 7 cars, vandalized them and exploded cocktails in different areas of the capital after the verdict was announced. These incidents happened from noon to 7:30 pm yesterday. Police arrested a youth named Dulal from Nayapaltan area in the afternoon for his involvement in sabotage. Various areas of the capital including Farmgate, Mirpur were vandalized yesterday.

BNP's official response today

An emergency meeting was held at the central office of Gulshan after the death sentence was announced against BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury accused of crimes against humanity in 1971. At this time there was a large presence of various media. Later, acting general secretary of BNP, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, told reporters that the official response will be given at 4 o'clock on Wednesday. At that time, the journalists tried to ask various questions, but he avoided.

A full-day hartal is going on in Chittagong

After the death sentence of BNP Standing Committee Member and Member of Parliament Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury was announced, Saka supporters burnt a passenger rider on Station Road in Chittagong city. Similarly, his constituency Rangunia upazila attacked the joy march of Chhatra League and Jubo League and burnt 5 motorcycles. This incident happened separately yesterday afternoon.

On the other hand, after the verdict was announced, Chittagong City, North and South District BNP rejected the verdict and called a morning-evening strike in Chittagong district today. No such incident has been reported till the writing of this news. A large number of security forces have been deployed in the city. They are staying at different points of the city. Security forces have not been seen so much before.

The people of Chittagong have called for a morning-evening hartal today in the north, south and the city to protest against the farce and political vindictive verdict by the local leaders of Chittagong in the name of anti-humanity trial.

Morning and evening strike in Rangamati in protest against the verdict

BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury's death sentence has been ordered by the district BNP and various allied organizations to protest the morning-evening hartal in Rangamati today. District BNP general secretary yesterday afternoon. General Secretary of Shah Alam and District Juba Dal. Ilyach said in a press release, the decision of this strike has been taken unanimously after discussing with the leaders and activists of our various organs and cooperative organizations. Meanwhile, the leaders and activists also held a special meeting at the party office of Rangamati district BNP in order to observe the hartal. After the meeting, the leaders and activists of BNP and the organizations took out a protest march in the city. Rangamati Municipality Mayor and Municipal BNP President Saiful Islam Chowdhury Bhutto and District BNP Organizing Secretary Saiful Islam Panir led the protest march after circling the main road of the city and meeting at the party office.
