Dhaka Times Desk The ultimatum given by BNP ends today on April 28. If Ilyas Ali and his car driver are not found then nationwide strike will start. Due to the power problem, the country's economic situation is already fragile. After that, the country will be completely immobilized by strikes.
On the night of April 17, BNP's organizing secretary and former member of parliament Elias Ali and his driver went missing. The day after this incident, from April 18, BNP and its affiliated organizations erupted in anger. On that day, BNP held a protest march across the country. Morning and evening strike was observed in 4 districts of Sylhet division on Thursday, April 19. However, when Ilyas Ali was not found, a nationwide strike was called on April 22. After this strike was conducted for two more days. On 23rd and 24th April hartal was observed across the country. Then on the evening of April 24, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia held a press conference and gave the government a 4-day ultimatum. Which ends today on April 28. On the same day, it was informed that if the government fails to rescue Ilyas Ali and his driver alive by April 28, BNP and its partner parties will go on a strict agitation from April 29.
Why is Jamaat-e-Islami silent?
Why is Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh not responding to the disappearance of BNP leader Ilyas Ali? This is the question asked by the general public. A leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was asked how Jamaat-e-Islami views these recent events. He tried to avoid the subject at first. Later said, Jamaat-e-Islami is and will be with all movements of BNP. "We have done what we need to do," he said on condition of anonymity. In response to the question that many people do not like Jamaat-e-Islami's silent attitude, the leader said, "We are at fault." So we think it is better to remain silent.
But what is it really? Why is Jamaat-e-Islami so silent? We talk to the general public to find answers to these questions. Many people think that Jamaat-e-Islami must be involved in some kind of fund-raising. Again, many people think that their war criminal trial is already going on, in this situation, if they move more, they will be harmed. Only time will tell what the real story is.
BNP and the government are tense about the next program
Both the BNP and the government are tense about what the program of the next movement will be. Because it is the government's responsibility to protect the safety of people. And while performing that duty, a lot of bloodshed happens. That is not good for the government. Again, this is becoming a challenge for the agitating BNP. People are already disorientated by the economic recession and then the strike. In one word, people are against strike. And so BNPO is very worried about this matter. Because one day is not a matter of two days. If there is to be a continuous strike, the BNP is worried about how successful the strike will be.
Detectives have not yet solved the mystery of Elias' disappearance
BNP leader Ilyas Ali abduction mystery is not unraveling soon. Rather, it is getting complicated day by day and rumors are increasing. Rumors are growing as time goes by. What the investigating officers have said so far is tantamount to groping in the dark. They could not provide any specific information to be reassured. Detectives have yet to make any leads in this incident. They remain in the dark. Rather, according to many, Ilyas Ali's fate is intertwined with the politics of the government and opposition parties. Awami League and BNP are blaming each other in this incident. Initially, most of the BNP leaders were hopeful that Ilyas Ali was alive. But now many have become skeptical. They are slowly giving up hope. On the other hand, they are calling the media offices and asking if Ilyas Ali is alive. Confusion is spreading in the public mind as it is not clear even after 10 days whether intelligence agency or terrorist group kidnapped Ilyas Ali. Fear of the unknown has also increased among them. Besides, various discussions and rumors are spreading. As no clue has been found, the question whether Ilyas Ali is alive at all is now doing the rounds.
