Cyclone Pailin has hit Odisha, India

The Dhaka Times Desk Cyclone Pailin has hit Odisha, India. According to news sources, it hit at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour yesterday at 9:14 pm local time.

Cyclone Pailin made landfall near Gopalpur on Odisha coast. Cyclone Pailin struck with a speed of 200 kilometers per hour on Saturday night. It is reported that Pailin will cross the coast at full strength for up to 6 hours.

Meanwhile, 10 feet waves are expected in Puri under the influence of Cyclone Pylin. The wind is blowing at a speed of more than 150 km. At least 7 people died due to heavy rain and storm. Weather scientists believe that the speed of the storm can be more than 240 km per hour. Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsingpur and Khurda are expected to suffer the most damage due to the impact of the pailin, media reported.

Heavy rains are falling in the affected areas. As a result, the local administration is afraid of landslides. Therefore, around 550,000 people have already been evacuated from Orissa and Andhra Pradesh coasts to avoid loss of life and property. The capital Bhubaneswar is in darkness. 7 districts of Orissa are without electricity.

After hearing the news of Pailin, a large number of local Hindu Muslims men and women attended prayers in temples and mosques. 183 trains of 3 railway zones have already been cancelled. Routes of 22 trains have been shortened. 26 train routes have been changed. Along with that, 10 flights have been canceled according to media sources.

It is to be noted that about 10,000 people lost their lives in the last cyclone in Orissa in 1999. Meteorologists have described it as the worst cyclone to hit India in 14 years.
