The Dhaka Times Desk Canada grants honorary citizenship to Malala, the world's youngest activist for women's education, a victim of violence by militant Islamist groups.
According to the media, Malala Yousafzai, a teenager of Pakistan's women's education movement, is being given honorary Canadian citizenship by the government of that country. Citing a Canadian government source, various international media reported this yesterday.
In a statement issued by the Canadian government, Malala Yousafzai put her life at risk by promoting women's education. It is truly a matter of courage and enthusiasm. Malala was shot on 9 October 2012 for speaking out against the Taliban on women's education. Malala later recovered after treatment in Britain. After that, Malala became known as a model for the establishment of women's rights around the world.
It should be noted that Malala is going to receive this honor as the sixth person to receive honorary citizenship of Canada. Earlier, Canada granted citizenship to Raoul Weinberg, Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Aung San Suu Kyi and Aga Khan.
