But in the end, after RAB took over the investigation of this murder, they removed the body from Khabar again and sent it for viscera examination. The result of this viscera exam will be available on May 15.
It is known that the evidence collected from the dead body is currently being tested at the Mohakhali Chemical Laboratory. RAB, the current investigating agency of the case, hopes to find out whether or not Sagar-Runi was fed anything narcotic before the murder through this test. However, forensic experts feel that since the body was exhumed from the grave so long after the murder, it is highly likely that the viscera examination will not yield true information.
Commander M Sohail, director of RAB's law and media wing, said it will not take months to get the test report of Sagar-Rooney's viscera like the other five cases. Since this is a sensational double murder case, the CID is examining this viscera with special importance. He said that the evidence collected from Sagar-Runi's dead body was sent to Mohakhali Chemical Laboratory under the control of CID on April 29 by the investigating officers. Viscera testing is already underway there. Visera test report will be available on May 15.
Commander Sohail told reporters that if the viscera test report is available, it will be confirmed whether Sagar or Runi or both were consumed by the killers before the murder. If so, it would be clear that this was a planned murder. He requested everyone's cooperation in unraveling the mystery of this murder.
He also said that the investigating officer of the case, Senior ASP Zafar Ullah, is investigating the mystery of the murder using various techniques. Previous investigation agency is scrutinizing the investigation papers of DB. Moreover, the supervisory officer of this sensational case, the director of RAB's intelligence branch, Lt. Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, Director of Investigation Branch Additional DIG Roshan Ara Begum, Director of Training Branch Additional DIG Fazlur Rahman are constantly supervising the investigation of the case. At the same time they are giving various directions to the investigating officer.
It is to be noted that RAB exhumed the bodies of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Runi from the Azimpur cemetery 75 days after the murder on April 26 to examine the viscera subject to the court's permission. Hair, teeth, some parts of stomach, some parts of kidney and liver were preserved as viscera samples from two corpses during post-mortem at Dhaka Medical. Incidentally, Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Machranga Television and his wife Mehrun Rooney, a senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were murdered late on the night of February 10 this year in their rented house in West Rajabazar of the capital.
Meanwhile, Sagar-Roonee's family is dreaming of a fresh trial as RAB takes charge of the case. They told reporters, we have lost our loved ones, we may never get them back. But at least we will have peace if those who committed this brutal murder are brought to justice.
