The Dhaka Times Desk The court acquitted BNP senior vice chairman Tarek Rahman in the money laundering case. On the other hand, his close friend businessman Ghiyasuddin Al Mamun was sentenced to 7 years in prison and fined 40 crore rupees by the court.
Today Sunday at 12 o'clock Dhaka's number 3 special judge Md. Motahar Hossain announced the verdict in a crowded court. At 11:30 a.m. the judge came to the courtroom. A little before 12 o'clock, Dhaka's number 3 special judge Md. Motahar Hossain. According to the media, Ghiyas Uddin Al Mamun was brought to the court from the prison at around 9:30 am.
On November 14, the court fixed this date after the arguments of the defense counsel. Lawyer Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kajol presented arguments for the state on November 7. On the same day, Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, the lawyer for the state, finished the presentation of arguments.
It should be noted that on October 26, 2009, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed this case in the Cantonment Police Station. On July 6, 2010, a charge sheet was filed in the court accusing Tariq Rahman and Ghiyas Uddin Al Mamun. On August 8, 2011, the court framed charges against Tarek and Mamun in this case. After almost 2 years and 4 months of judicial proceedings, the verdict was delivered today.
