The Dhaka Times Desk The court announced the sensational Biswajit murder case verdict today. In this verdict, the court sentenced 8 people to death and 13 people to life imprisonment.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 4 announced the verdict of the discussed case.
Those sentenced to death are Chhatra League Cadre Rafiqul Islam Shakeel (Chapati Shakeel), Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, Emdadul Haque Emdad, Qayyum Mia Tipu, Saiful Islam, Mir Md. Noor Alam Limon and Rajan Talukder.
Those sentenced to life imprisonment are HM Kibria, Tariq bin Johar Tamal, Khandkar Md. Yunus Ali, Ghulam Mostafa, Alauddin, Imran Hossain Imran, Obaidur Quader Tahsin, Azizur Rahman Aziz, Al Amin Sheikh, Rafiqul Islam, Monirul Haque Pavel, Mosharraf Hossain and Kamrul Hasan. Apart from life imprisonment, they have been fined 20 thousand rupees.
It is to be noted that on December 9, 2012, during the hartal program called by 18 like-minded parties including BNP, Biswajit Das, an innocent tailor shopkeeper, was brutally murdered by Jagannath University Chhatra League leaders and activists in front of Victoria Park in Old Dhaka. At that time they openly killed Biswajit by hacking him with a chapati and beating him with a rod. Seeing this horrific incident on TV, there was a storm of discussion, criticism and condemnation in the country and abroad. The people of the country were shocked to see such a brutal scene.
