BRTA Restrictions: No riders on motorcycles

The Dhaka Times Desk Bangladesh Road Transport Authority BRTA has issued this ban for an indefinite period, no rider can be taken on a motorcycle without a driver. This ban was issued in a special notice on Saturday night.

In the notification issued yesterday, BRTA said, "Recently, it has been noticed that the driver and other passengers on the motorcycle are disrupting the safety of public transport by carrying out terrorist and vandalism activities (throwing petrol bombs, cocktail explosions, etc.)."

The BATA in its notification further said, 'Therefore, in order to prevent these acts of terrorism and vandalism in the interest of the safety of the people, a ban has been imposed on the carrying of passengers other than the driver on motorcycles in accordance with Section-88 of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1983.' The notification also mentioned that this ban will remain in force till further instructions.

Motorcycles are seen being used in grenade throwing incidents due to recent political unrest. Last week, a policeman was killed by a petrol bomb thrown from a motorcycle at a bus in Banglamotor.

It should be noted that the notification did not say what action will be taken against those who disobey this order.
