10th National Assembly election begins: 2 camp workers killed in Rangpur

The Dhaka Times Desk Voting for the 10th National Assembly election started at 8 am. 2 Shibir workers were killed at the beginning of the election in Rangpur.

At least 111 educational institutions have been set on fire in the last two days. Voting in 147 constituencies in the 10th National Assembly election started today at 8 am. In the first one hour, the turnout of voters was very low after visiting various centers. Polling will be held continuously till 4 pm. In this election, 153 candidates were elected unopposed before the polls. In this, 147 seats are being held today. However, polling has been suspended in several centers due to the burning of polling stations.

There was a huge clash between the police and the Jamaat-e-Islami activists over the occupation of Deuti School and College in Pirgacha polling station of Rangpur. Meanwhile, 2 camp workers were killed in police firing. This clash took place at Deuti village of Parul Union in Pirgacha around 3 am on Sunday.

It is known that Jamaat-Shibir activists tried to take over Deuti School and College polling station of Rangpur-4 Constituency (Pirgacha-Kaunia) around 3 am. When the police opened fire, 2 people were killed. The deceased Mirazul Islam (35) is the son of deceased Azizuddin of Arazichaluniya village of the same union. The other is Hafizuzzaman (32). The situation there is stagnant. But law enforcement is ready. The local police said, no other incident will be allowed to happen here.

Meanwhile, Assistant Presiding Officer Zobaidur Rahman was beaten to death by BNP workers in an ambush at Chheparikura Primary School polling station in Raipur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. At this time, they also snatched the police weapons and ballot boxes. This incident happened around 11 pm on Saturday.
