Arrest warrant issued against Awami League leader Mohiuddin Chowdhury

The Dhaka Times Desk The Chittagong Court has issued an arrest warrant against Awami League leader and former Chittagong City Corporation Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

Chittagong Divisional Special Judge SM Ataur Rahman issued a warrant in a case filed on the charge of acquiring assets outside of income. This former mayor is the president of Chittagong City Awami League.

According to Anti-Corruption Commission sources, 'the case was adjourned from the High Court at the stage of taking evidence. Later, when the High Court lifted the stay, testimony began again in the Divisional Special Judge's Court. The court issued this arrest warrant as the defendants did not appear during the testimony. At the same time, the court has fixed the date of next testimony in this case on February 16.

In that case, Mohiuddin was accused of concealing assets worth Tk 28 lakh 29 thousand 264 15 paisa and acquiring assets outside the known income of Tk 1 lakh 23 thousand 491.

It is to be noted that the Anti-Corruption Commission filed a case against Mohiuddin Chowdhury on December 2, 2007 during the tenure of the former caretaker government. Of which special case number-32/2008.
