In modern medical system it is possible to cure the incurable disease cancer. However, its treatment is expensive as well as difficult for the patient. Coping with a complex treatment like cancer is a big challenge for the patient. But this time medical scientists are giving news of new hope. Adolescents and young cancer patients can cope with complex treatments by using music therapy, researchers say, which can serve as a foundation for recovery.
According to media reports published by the BBC, researchers from the School of Nursing at Indiana University in the United States have successfully applied this music therapy to a group of cancer patients aged 11 to 24 years. All of those patients were undergoing complex and risky treatments such as stem cell transplants. After the therapy, they feel better and their relationships with friends and family improve. That is, they try to maintain social relationships like healthy people.
The report also states that the researchers gave adolescent and young patients three weeks to create a music video. They have to do everything from writing the lyrics of the music video to arranging the music, recording, collecting the video images. This process is supervised by a skilled music therapist. After making the music, the music video is shown to their friends and family. Later, the therapy group was more able to cope with the treatment than the others. Even after 100 days they feel the same comfort.
Researchers are conducting further research on this issue. They are hopeful that cancer patients, especially young patients, can recover through this music therapy.
