Dhaka Times Desk Smoking in public will be fined 500 rupees. Law Minister Shafiq Ahmed said that such a law will be passed.
It has been reported that the fine of Tk 10 lakh for advertisement of tobacco or tobacco-like products and Tk 50 for smoking in public will be increased to Tk 500. Law Minister Shafiq Ahmed said this. He also said that a law will be made so that no one under the age of 16 can take these drugs.
He said this in a round table discussion titled 'Cries of people suffering from tobacco related diseases' at the capital's Sirdap Auditorium on Sunday, July 29. The news is from BangladeshNews24.com.
Stating that a demand will be raised in the National Parliament very soon to prevent tobacco, the Law Minister further said that due to these addictions, many people are causing harm without their own knowledge. Because of this, people are suffering from various incurable diseases including cancer.
In response to a question, the law minister said that the fact that women drink without smoke, eat jorda, will also be taken into consideration.
However, he also opined that the next generation can be kept away from tobacco not only by law, but by highlighting its harmful aspects in various institutions including schools and colleges.
Barrister Abdur Momen, Sirajul Islam, Kazi Rafiqul Alam, MP Nazma Akhtar and many others spoke in this discussion meeting chaired by MA Malik.
