It has been reported that the fine of Tk 10 lakh for advertisement of tobacco or tobacco-like products and Tk 50 for smoking in public will be increased to Tk 500. Law Minister Shafiq Ahmed said this. He also said that a law will be made so that no one under the age of 16 can take these drugs.

Stating that a demand will be raised in the National Parliament very soon to prevent tobacco, the Law Minister further said that due to these addictions, many people are causing harm without their own knowledge. Because of this, people are suffering from various incurable diseases including cancer.
In response to a question, the law minister said that the fact that women drink without smoke, eat jorda, will also be taken into consideration.
However, he also opined that the next generation can be kept away from tobacco not only by law, but by highlighting its harmful aspects in various institutions including schools and colleges.
