Sagar-Rooney's death anniversary: how long wait for the arrest of the killer?

The Dhaka Times Desk Today marks two years since the brutal murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney. Journalist community including both family members have been waiting for the murder trial for 2 years.

Meanwhile, fellow journalist leaders have been protesting for the arrest of the killers for 2 years. But justice is far away, the killers could not be identified and arrested. The reason for the murder is not known till date. As a result, fear, despair and anxiety have been created among the family, colleagues and countrymen about the murder. Journalist organizations have been holding various programs to demand the arrest of the killers. On the other hand, Sagar-Rooney's family is demanding justice for the killers.

Megh, the only child of a journalist couple, did not understand anything at that time, but now she understands that her parents will never return. Megh also learned that her parents were brutally murdered. Now there is nothing to do but pray for his parents. Now that reality has been accepted by this little silly child Megh. From time to time, he raised his hands to the Creator and prayed, 'God bless Mimi and Baba.' Seeing such a scene, even the relatives cannot hold back their tears. 7-year-old child Mahir Sarwar Megh is now normal.

On the other hand, Saleha Monir, the mother of the slain journalist Sagar Sarwar and Nurunnahar Mirza, the mother of Rooney, have been seeking justice for the killers for 2 years. Their only regret is, 'They were not only our children, they were the wealth of the state. But the murderers of that child have not been arrested! This is what we have asked from the state. Arrest and prosecution of the killers is our only hope. If I could see it before I die, I would have peace.'

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the second death anniversary of Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney, a three-day exhibition started yesterday at Dhanmondi's Drik Gallery with their belongings, photographs and murder incidents and various published paper cuttings. The exhibition has been organized by Rooney's family. On the other hand, two sections of the Dhaka Journalist Union will hold a joint rally in front of the Press Club today. Dhaka Reporters Unity has also organized a memorial meeting today at 11 am. The memorial service will be held at Sagar-Rooney Auditorium. Seeking justice for the murder, Machranga television has taken up various programs including quality control.

It is to be noted that on the morning of February 11, 2012, the wounded bodies of the journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Mehrun Rooney were recovered from a flat on the 5th floor of the house number 58/1/1 of West Rajabazar, Farmgate of the capital. After this brutal murder, there was a sensation all over the country. There was a demand for quick arrest of the murderers. The government also promised to implement the demands quickly. The demand for the arrest of the killers of Sagar Sarwar and his wife Mehrun Rooney, the senior reporter of ATN Bengal, who was the message editor of the private TV channel Machranga, has not yet seen the face of implementation.
