That's what RAB is hoping for based on a report that someone's DNA has been identified in a signal sent to the United States.

RAB also said that after receiving the report from the US, they will compare the DNA samples of more suspects. On August 24, RAB's director of legal and media affairs Commander M Sohail told reporters at the RAB headquarters that the DNA of several people was identified in a laboratory in the United States after testing the knife used in the murder and Mehrun Rooney's t-shirt. From this, it is understood that more than one person is involved in the murder. In addition, it has already been possible to identify someone's DNA from Rooney's T-shirt. Apart from this, fingerprints of four people were found on one of the two knives and handprints of several people on the other. He said that if the full report of evidence examination is received within the next one month, there will be a big progress in the investigation of the Sagar-Rooney murder case.

Commander M Sohail, director of RAB's law and media wing, said that after the responsibility of investigating the case was transferred from DB to RAB, 9 samples were collected from Sagar-Rooney's house and sent to Forensic and DNA Lab in Falkland, USA for testing. In the first round, on June 12, two blood-stained knives, two knife blades, pants worn by the sea, pants worn by Rooney and samples of underwear were sent on June 12. After that, on July 17, the second round sent parts of Sagar's hands and feet during the murder, Rooney's hair, Rooney-Sagar's body tissue and Rooney's t-shirt. The testing process of the sent samples is now at the final stage. A full report of the chemical and DNA tests will be available by the middle of next month (September).

M. Sohail also said that the test to compare the DNA samples of possible murderers with the DNA identified from the evidence is possible in Bangladesh. There is no need to send the sample back to the US. An attempt will be made to identify the real killers by combining all the information.

According to RAB investigative sources, at least 95 people have been interrogated in this incident after handing over the investigation to RAB. A 'short list' has been made of them as suspects. From this 'short list' more suspects will be matched with DNA samples.

Investigators say that from the beginning, they believed that multiple people participated in the murder. Now the DNA samples of several people are available from Almaty as well. But if you can identify one person first, it will be much easier to identify others.

It is to be noted that on the morning of February 11, police recovered the injured bodies of Mashranga Television news editor Sagar Sarwar and ATN Bangla's senior reporter Mehrun Rooney from a rented flat in West Rajabazar. At noon on this day, Home Minister Sahara Khatun announced that the killers would be arrested within 48 hours. After that, Inspector General of Police Hasan Mahmud Khandkar in a press conference at the police headquarters commented that there has been commendable progress. But as there was no progress after this, on April 18, the investigation agency of the case Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) admitted the failure in the police court. Later, the High Court directed the RAB to investigate the case. On April 26, after receiving the investigation, the bodies of the two were exhumed from the grave to collect evidence of the viscera examination.
