The Dhaka Times Desk Polling for the third phase of the Upazila Parishad elections today. The Election Commission has already completed all the preparations for the polling. Voting will continue in 81 upazilas of 41 districts uninterruptedly from 8 am to 4 am.
1 thousand 119 candidates are contesting in this third phase election. 419 people in the post of chairman. On the other hand, there are 423 candidates for the post of vice chairman and 277 candidates for the post of reserved women vice chairman.
The official campaign work of the candidates ended last night. On the occasion of polling, a general holiday has been declared in the election-related upazilas on Saturday. Army, BGB, RAB, policemen have already started patrolling in the electoral area. The army is patrolling as a striking force in 81 upazilas for peaceful elections. It has been informed that a platoon of army personnel will patrol the upazilas where elections are taking place.
In the third phase of upazila elections, the total number of voters in 81 upazilas is 1 crore 31 lakh 85 thousand 13 people. 65 lakh 67 thousand 832 male voters and 66 lakh 17 thousand 181 female voters. There are a total of 5 thousand 456 polling stations and 38 thousand 189 polling booths. Presiding officer 5 thousand 456 people. 38 thousand 189 assistant presiding officers and 76 thousand 378 polling officers.
It should be noted that in the first phase, elections were held in 97 upazilas on February 19. The second phase was held on February 27. The fourth phase will be held on March 23 in 92 upazilas and the fifth phase will be held in 74 upazilas on March 31.
