The Dhaka Times Desk Potatoes and tomatoes have been reported to be caught on the same plant. Comilla has such a novel phenomenon of two crops on the same tree.
According to media reports, farmers in Comilla have got a bumper crop by growing potatoes on the roots of the same plant and tomatoes on the trunks of the same plant. It is mentioned in the news that this new farming method has been developed by conducting research at Sayedpur Udyan Development Center of Burichong Upazila of Comilla District under BADC.
It was observed that the same plant bore many good sized tomatoes in the upper part of the soil i.e. the stem. Again, the roots of the same plant have fried large potatoes.
Sources said that for this method potato and tomato seeds should be sown side by side on the same day. When the seedlings are 22 days old, tomatoes are transplanted to the potato stem by grafting or split grafting. The researchers of the Garden Development Center said that after 12 days of planting in this way, flowers bloom in the tomato seedlings.
Saidpur Udyan Development Center deputy director and successful researcher. Nigar Haider Khan told the media that tomato and potato cultivation methods on the same plant yielded more than expected. Locally this method is called Pomato. He said, this subculture can be done on a small scale and in the courtyard of the house and even on the roof of the building.
